21/08/2019: AmaZulu FC 0-0 Orlando Pirates
“The last couple of days for me has been exciting, I’m just excited and enjoying the responsibility of leading a club that I sleep, eat, breathe, leading the club that I was born into. If you cut my blood at the moment you would see I bleed black and white. When I left Mamelodi Sundowns people said I made the wrong decision. Today I sit in a situation where I lead my grandfather’s club, uncle’s club, I lead my father’s club.”
23/09/2019: Bidvest Wits 4-3 Orlando Pirates
“As a football supporter, a good game of football to watch. As the football coach of Orlando Pirates, proud of the character, proud of our fight and never-say-die attitude. I think it was clear to see that we didn’t lose the match but we ran out of time. But disappointed of course to lose the match of course. Disappointed that we conceded four goals. When you score three, you should normally win the match so disappointed that we lost the match having scored three goals.”
02/11/2019: Kaizer Chiefs 2-2 Orlando Pirates (Chiefs won 4-2 on penalties)
“First congratulations to Kaizer Chiefs, they won the match, we’re never sore losers at Orlando Pirates, we gave it our best, we gave as much as we received but at the end of the day we’re on the losing end, we congratulate the opponent and move on. There were certain moments I was sitting on the bench and I looked at the pitch I thought I was Picasso looking at a Mona Lisa painting. I could just smile with admiration for these players. They fight, they want to fight for the badge, they want to represent Orlando Pirates with aplomb and they are prepared to eat the grass if push comes to shove, we gotta congratulate them for the performance, unfortunately for the Buccaneers we’re on the other end of the result.”
05/11/2019: Orlando Pirates 0-0 Maritzburg United
“We like to make it difficult, my middle name is Mlungisi (which means: Mr. Fix It), so I think so the players try and test how much I can fix certain things, so it’s a test to see how difficult they can make things for me, but we keep going and we try to fix.”
09/11/2019: Kaizer Chiefs 3-2 Orlando Pirates
“We dug deep, scored one just before half-time but before that we hit the crossbar and the upright, we created so many chances, you can only be proud of these Orlando Pirates players. But having said that, I’m extremely disappointed as a football lover that such a great spectacle is ruined by such thuggish behaviour! It’s okay to lose, okay let’s lose but don’t punch my players! I’ve got players that were kicked, punched in the face, I mean what do you say about these things. It’s thuggish behaviour! I mean how do we have such coaches that condone such behaviour and carry [out] such behaviour!? I mean we can’t have such things! Everybody is watching this, this is broadcast world-wide, it’s two of the biggest teams in the country and they play very good football and then we have coaches that encourages players to punch, foul and kick and be thugs on the pitch, it can’t be!”
