The 2021 CAF Under-17 Africa Cup of Nations that was scheduled to kick off in Morocco this weekend has been cancelled.

“The CAF Emergency Committee met on Monday, March 08, 2021 in Rabat, Morocco to decide on the holding of the 2021 U17 Total Africa Cup of Nations.,” CAF said in a statement.

“The Committee was made aware of the constraints faced by some of the participating member associations as well as the host country including the fact that the coronavirus pandemic continues to present significant challenges for the organization of international sporting events.”

The CAF Emergency Committee took the decision to cancel the tournament after taking into consideration various issues among others:

• The resurgence of the Covid-19 pandemic
• Increased restrictions on international travel
• That the tournament now served little purpose after FIFA cancelled the subsequent U-17 World Cup that was scheduled for Peru later this year.

Amajimbos had been paired in Group C together with Cameroon, Senegal and Mali. The tournament, was to initially scheduled to hold between 13 to 30 March.
